Description

You get there by bus. I took the Cruz Del Sur bus line into near-by Ica from Lima. It was great - WiFi, TV, and reclining seats for napping. It only took four and a half hours to get there and cost less that $20.00. For those who prefer the convenience of air travel, you're out of luck, There's no airport.

Huacachina is an oasis surrounded by massive sun dunes in a wind blown desert. It"s charming. Maybe because it was a welcome break from the gloom of Lima or maybe because my natural habitat is the desert, but for whatever reason, Haucachina was one of my favorite places in Peru. I felt great there. The cuisine was great. The hotel was quaint. There's plenty to do and see.

Climb the dunes. Go sand skiing. Take a ride in a dune buggy. Go paragliding.  Rent a paddle boat and explore the oasis. Go to the near by town of Nasca and fly over the pre-Columbian geoglyphs. The list goes on.

Even though Huacachina does not make it to the top of the list of Peruvian tourist destinations, it's a must see. I will definitely go back.
