Description

This beautiful and serene lake is located in the Amazon rain forest. It is a three hour boat ride from the city of Puerto Maldonada up the Rio Madre Del Dios. It is home to spectacular wildlife - from anacondas, camen, and otters to jaguars and monkeys. You won't find tourists here. In fact, you won't find much here. We went to a small lake side community and was able to buy some beer and basic supplies from one of the locals. However, the stock was limited. So, best to bring everything you need with you. Obviously, there are no hotels or campgrounds. We found a ram-shackled old shelter and pitched camp there. It didn't offer much cover from the violent, albeit brief storm, but that's the charm of the place.
